'Another guy learned to make it.' The super serume that personifies the character traits of the people inoculated? And these obvious authoritarians, who believe in nationalizing private property at the state or political majority's command, just like red skull did as a socialist, didnt turn into red skull? Sure.

Remember that Steve had to go through a procedure involving advanced machinery for the serum to properly be intergrated into his body? Now the serum is chugged down like gatorade and BOOM you're automatically a super soldier!

@Schlock Jocks That the continuity is getting more diluted the more the MCU progresses. The serum was such a big deal in the earlier movies and was given more meaning to it, due to the huge amount of effort needed to make it work. Heck it's the reason to why The Hulk exists. My problem is that the execution of the serum's importance, uses and consequences as a proper plot device has become lazy. It has also basically rendered the earlier depictions in prior movies less meaningful.

Don't call me black falcon,I'm just falcon. 1 min later, call me black Captain America. Imagine having a black man play a legit black role, only to tell him nah, you can play a white role instead. And then said, black man agrees. Like wtf. Destroyed an original black character to try and play a white man. Says it all really.

@Schlock Jocks fantastic four #52 of 1966 introduced the first black superhero Black Panther during the civil rights. I'm not saying to make him captain America because that obviously would be ignorant. My point with him is that no white man ever took up his mantle because of racism that goes on in Africa wanting to correct that problem. Captain America is a superhero that is originally a white character and I have no problem with that at all. Because Sam's character the Falcon was created during the civil rights era, why would you need to change him to Captain America other than just having a Captain America that just happens to be black. There's no plot or story to drive him to being that other than making him a token. That destroys a strong admirable original black character for nothing. He doesn't even have super soldier powers. Instead, why not give the captain America mantle to Bucky barnes who does have super soldier powers, and use it as a sort of redemption role for bucky for his past. That actually has a strong plot or story with substance you can create something great from. I actually cared more about Falcon growing up infinitely more than captain America because I could relate to and looked up to him. He was my superhero created during the civil rights era that was black, not captain America.

    • Schlock Jocks

      Schlock Jocks

      Órája

@fuck you and the horse you rode in on Sam taking up a major mantleike Captain America is important though. I mean the whole point of him being created in the comics was to mirror the Civil Rights controversy at the time.

    • fuck you and the horse you rode in on

fuck you and the horse you rode in on

      Órája

@Schlock Jocks I think he's saying how stupid it is in the sense of what WB is planning to do by making Clark Kent a black superman. Falcon is already a great and original black superhero that appeared in 1969 in Captain America #117. There's no need for there to be a Captain America at all in a show titled Falcon and the Winter Soldier, much less a black captain America. There are plenty original strong black characters you can introduce. As a black man I hate this type of tokenization. Nobody cares about a black captain America. Give us the black superheroes we grew up on and admired.

The one bonus, if you must have a bonus to make life seem worthwhile; well then the one bonus of this global pandemic, is that the Cinema has been shut. Because uninspired dog turd films were not being flushed down our throats every five minutes - they had to wait a year. Obviously, it does mean we are about to inject a maelstrom of visual dog turds in the next few months, but we can all look back fondly on that lock down furlough age when we had nothing to do so we re-watched 'Missing in Action' and 'Time Cop' and actually got to re-watch funny people tell us jokes that were funny because they are comedians. I can hear society flushing already...

The plot is a bit deeper than it's portrait by your analysis. The Flagsmashers don't want just stuff, they simply don't want the world to fall back to it's pre thanos situation. After the blip, Nations have been obsolete and the world started to unite. Their goal is to continue this development. That's why they see the new Cpt. America as a symbol of the past. That name of their "organisation" is pretty clear on that. "Flag smashers" simply means, they want to destroy the nations and unify the world. They see themselfs not as members a particular nation state but as people of the world.

Zemo was the best, and I actually didn't mind Walker, Falcon, or Bucky as much as I was expecting. The 'not' terrorists were baffling, because I could not understand what their goal or motivation was, since yeah... they straight up kill people, but act like they didn't. It was absolutely bizarre, along with the 'you need to do more senator' speech which was absolute cringe. The other thing that drove me batty was how the military was represented with Walker. This guy has THREE metals of honor, and yet he acts like a butterbar with one tour. There's a scene were they just run into him on a random street in a foreign country and they all just start talking about national security in the middle of public in broad daylight... like wut??? The guy also seems to have zero communication talent and looks like he lacks confidence. I'm not sure if this was intentional, something the director wanted, or the actor failed to project, but it made him look like a complete rookie where he should've looked at least professional. You know, someone who got THREE metals of honor. At least the actor might get another chance under better writers in the future. I surprisingly did not mind the black commentary as much as I expected to. Falcon seemed to be more optimistic in contrast to the black super-soldier's pessimism, which worked. Get rid of that empty senator speech and that stuff would've been fine. I also didn't mind Bucky's character arc, even if he was nerfed in this show. I'll say the characters have potential, they just need to be placed in the hands of better writers and directors from now on (like the Russo Brothers). The main fear for the MCU is if they'll keep this lower tier writing for the streaming shows, or if it will creep into the movies, in which case I'll eat my words.

    • Americo Zergling

      Americo Zergling

      23 órája

@Schlock Jocks Yeah, just because there was an allusion to immigrants doesn't make their motivations and goals clear. First off, immigration is a more complicated subject than racist white people refusing to aid poor, hopeful immigrants seeking a promised land. Real world politics aside, the MCU issue cannot be related to any real world problems because it's centered around the whole Thanos snap where half the population was gone for five years. People who had been getting support for five years are abandoned for the new population who had been gone. I can feel sympathy for that part, and I guess that was their motivation, loosing what they thought they had. What I don't get is the solution. Blowing up buildings, taking illegal super drugs, and kidnapping politicians is a little extreme for a group who just wants a house. Organizations who do that tend to have a lot of desperate, insane, power hungry, or cult-like people within them to attempt that, be it gangs, mafias, and even certain governments. This show is trying to show the Flag Smashers as a group of innocent kids who got caught up in a bad business, but THEY are the ones who are planning all of this. Bucky and Falcon act like there's some kind of conflict to save or kill Karli, but Karli consistently seems fine with killing people throughout the show. I was thinking there'd be a moment she'd relate to Bucky, but there isn't. She doesn't seem haunted by Lamar's death, or even the death of her comrade by Walker, she just continues to be destructive for the goal of... government funding? It was rich in the last episode how they've gone through with kidnapping politicians and working with mercenaries, yet the one guy is shocked when Karli suggests to kill some hostages? What did he expect was the point of taking hostages? If Karli showed more hesitation or perhaps there was more pressure from certain third parties who were forcing them to commit heinous acts, then I would feel sympathy. But without that being clear they're exactly what Zemo says they are, radicals and terrorists. It's not like Marvel was ever against killing people, but in this show that question pokes its head in the most bizarre way.

He is actually mostly shown as a decent man and a selfless soldier, but somewhat unhinged (I think they should have explored his PTSD more). And indeed, the Flag Smashers are a great satire on modern activists and generally people who argue on Twitter. They have just dropped their mother's tit out of their mouth, but they already think they know better than anyone else how world politics should be made. And all who disagree are just "roadblocks" and can be killed or silenced if necessary. That's exactly the kind of people who push their super-left agenda on Twitter and other platforms.

Sounds like the Flag Smashers are allegorical to conflict in the Middle East, especially with happenings between Israel and Palestine. To be fair, I haven't watched the series. I don't have Disney+, so I'll have to either hit the High Seas, or wait until I stay with a family member that actually pays for it. So I'm just going with what you've presented in the video. Other than that, great video as always, Drinker.

@Schlock Jocks I mean, sometimes his takes aren't very good. Though usually those are only parts of his overall points. I assume it's true here.

Karly was the worst MCU character ever written! Why the hell would a 20 year old girls have hundreds of people support her mission to kill just cause she gives a couple speeches wrf

This all seems subtle nuanced and not at all ham fisted. Man maybe I was wrong to write off most modern films and tv shows. Maybe hearing full grown black men give 20 year old white girl twitter speeches is what we need to save entertainment.

I normally agree with many of your points, but it’s very clear to me that you really decided to talk about the show in a very shallow way. Actually I think it’s quite disingenuous and wrong for you to do this as it perpetuates poor habits among movie viewers for HUeye views. As an example, the whole story with Isaiah being erased from records for being Black is actually based on a real life analogue- look up the Tuskegee syphilus experiment. However, beyond that, it is a story of a black man too bitter at his poor treatment to move past those old grudges into a modern world that where skin color doesn’t really matter as much to Americans as it used to. He goes so far as to say that Adam shouldn’t be Captian America because it feeds into the white mans ego. When Adam takes up the shield anyway, it’s powerful because he shows Isaiah that he isn’t going to let past evils dictate his actions in the present. This is an excellent way to both honor Black Lives Matter, but also respectfully disagree with them (which is my personal stance). One thing I really did agree with though was making Karli into the villain for the season. Looking at her, I never really took her seriously. However, the symbolism of using Karli was poignant- she was just a random girl who could have been anyone off the street. As a result she ends up being a good villain for the purpose of symbolizing the grassroots nature of the rebellion against the GRC. Other than that, I think it would have been better to have the power broker or even Zemo be the villain- though Karli did her job of setting g things up for more important people in a season 2 or something. Karli was never an end, she was always a means for other people and things. Anyway, your review disappointed me this time. Too much ideological baiting and not enough actual criticism of the shows themes and ideas.

I mean, a ballistic face shield would not be something I'd want to try and punch with a fleshy fist in a fight... Kinda smart to make one of your most vulnerable areas in a fight something a person would think twice about punching.
